Fast, Fun Mustang Convertible.
From the John Gotshall Collection, this Mustang is a base convertible that has been tastefully modified. It presents as a “Phantom” Boss 351 convertible. I say “Phantom” as the Boss 351 was available only in 1971 in the fastback body style and never in the convertible body style. The vehicle has been totally restored and all systems and components have been addressed and either restored or replaced with new components. I would estimate that the original restoration was done 8 years ago and still presents in outstanding condition although the paint work shows some evidence of ageing. The car has been driven less than 2000 miles since restoration. The odometer shows 93K miles.
The body is very straight and rust free. The rear quarters have been replaced as well as the floor pans. The paint is base coat / clear coat and looks very good.
The front and rear suspension have been rebuilt and high performance replacement parts were used. Aftermarket power rack and pinion update the steering and lend to the high performance driving experience as well as updating the front brakes to disc brakes. The rear axle is a heavy duty 9” Ford with 3:55 gearing, a Trac-Loc limited slip and 12” drum brakes. The original automatic transmission has been replaced with a 5-speed Tremac overdrive manual transmission. The clutch is a high performance unit.
The engine is a very high performance 351 Windsor with an estimated 450HP. It is equipped with:
high performance camshaft
roller rockers
Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold
650 CFM Holley carburetor
Polished aluminum valve covers
Mallory electronic distributor
High capacity aluminum radiator
Long tube headers
The vehicle is equipped with factory optional 15” Magnum chrome wheels and has high tread B.F. Goodrich white letter tires.
The power convertible top is in excellent condition as is the rear window and operates as it should. The interior is stock style replacement and is in excellent condition as well. The entire wiring loom was recently replaced with American Autowire components and all exposed wires are hidden to produce a very clean look under the hood. The factory air conditioning was replaced at the same time with a new Vintage Air unit that produces very cool air. The Custom Autosound sound system is factory appearing and has Bluetooth and USB inputs (the wire that you can see under the radio is the USB input). The bumpers and all exterior trim have been replaced or re-chromed and are in excellent condition.
This is a well sorted car that runs REALLY STRONG. It drives well and runs cool in the Arizona heat.
The estate is listing the car for auction on Bring a Trailer in the near future.
